Monthly Update

I think I’ve decided in going to start blogging once a month on a regular basis (filling you in on anything interesting happening in the month and how my Uni and personal projects are going). In all fairness this decision has been made because I am terrible at neglecting my blog as I an always super busy, especially being ill and trying to meet deadlines!

However, on a lighter note, I am now the owner of a brand spanking new iPhone 5!!!!! I absolutely love it and am fully converted from blackberry!

I hope to enlighten you all soon with interesting blog posts!

AHHH

I know I haven’t posted here in like forever, but wow. Hi.

It’s been and gone January and is now February.. Which has gone incredibly fast.

Lots has happened in this month though. I got all my assignment grades back.

I got 2 A’s and and 2 B-‘s which I’m happy about.

I split up with my boyfriend, which kinda’ sucks but too personal for my blog!

I dyed my hair ginger, but then back to brown (massive mishap haha)

I’ve had a lot of health problems, as I may have posted, before Xmas I blacked out at work and was in hospital over Xmas. That’s still ongoing now.

Other than that, nothing much has really happened…………………

Mini update.

CHRISTMAS

OMG.

I’m actually back, and updating on a reasonably frequent standard now. Hoorah!

I have finished Uni now for Christmas, won’t be back until some time in January. I just had to get all my assignments and everything done and handed in so I could relax and have actual time for blogging…….

Ofc, it’s Christmas so soon, 12 days… AND I’M SO EXCITED!!!! I’m like a big kid at Christmas it’s unbelievable. I just love how happy Christmas makes everyone feel and brings people together really. Plus I have bought some bloody good presents this year so I hope people enjoy them!

I also had my first driving lesson today, which went amazingly well. I felt so confident and calm, as if I’d been driving for a while and I was so shocked. I’m glad I started to learn in a manual rather than automatic. I did reverse, left/right turns, mini roundabouts and T junctions and gear changes, and my instructor said he was shocked at how well I did, which is such a relief. I can’t wait to drive I’m like craving to get in a car!

I promise I will be updating more regularly on the whole Christmas/Driving thing, and just any interesting things I get up to over the holidays.

Update: 27/11/12

Ah Christmas is coming so soon which is crazy exciting, just that means that I have tons of deadlines at Uni too 😦 however, I went on a trip on Monday to the V&A museum in South Kensington to the Hollywood Costume exhibition. I highly recommend this exhibition, it was sooooo good, especially if you’re really into films and design like I am. It was laid out really well, and it’s all interactive so it looks like the directors commentating are actually interacting with each other, and the background soundtrack is amazing. It does cost, but if you go in a group of 20+ it’s only £2 per person, or £9 with student discount, otherwise it’s just £14 entry, but to be honest, I think it’s worth the £14. It’s really interesting and quite surreal seeing all the actual genuine costumes that were worn by stars within touching distance. It’s a cool experience.

12/11/12: Update

I didn’t mean to leave it this long until my next update (sorrrrrrry). I’ve had my timetable changed at Uni so I now have more lessons and two new tutors Simon & Andy. Actually, the lessons aren’t too bad (ISHE gets a little tedious) but I like Simon. The Apprentice (magazine episode) was hilarious today. Those apprentices are so ridiculously dumb hahah. I’ve also been doing work with my internship placement; creating labels and promo ads and stuff, so I’ve been super busy for that as we’ve had printing deadlines to meet and stuff. I’m not ignoring or neglecting this! I’m just super super busy at the moment!

6/11/10: Update

Uni assignments are starting to take toll now, ahh so many. I have a really interesting Design module assignment though. I was given a font at random selection and I have to research the font’s origins, designs and context and then create an A5 spread displaying our 200 word research in whichever way we like (providing we back it up with evidence and reasoning in our sketchbooks) – which then leads me onto the fact I had to buy a sketchbook – I feel so arty! I think it’s a pretty cool assignment really, I’m having fun with it. I’ll post it once it’s been marked and stuff to let you see what I did.

4/11/10: Update

Ahhh, I’m so sorry I still haven’t posted stuff. I’ve had so much stuff going on it’s crazy, and tons of Uni assignments to do. I had a meeting with the woman I am now interning with and I’m crazy excited for all the stuff going on. I’m now involved in two of her projects, including a brand launch that I’m designing for. I promise to keep you posted as and when exciting stuff happens!

PS: I know I STILL haven’t put those photo’s up here yet of the Women’s Library, I’m yet to do that too. I promise I’ll do it soon 😥

30/10/12 – Visit to Women’s Library, Aldgate East

Today I went with my class to the Women’s Library (if you’re interested in going I’ll post the details on how to get there below) in Aldgate East, and it was actually quite interesting. They have an exhibition on at the moment ‘The Long March To Equality: Treasurers of the Women’s Library’ which is basically all about the suffragette movement and moves right the way up to 21st Century women and how women are portrayed now. I took down some notes and photographs – I’ll post those in a separate post – (they were from my phone so they’re not the best quality) which might be of some interest to some of you. It includes some of the most rarest collections apparently, and it has a badge maker too! (I personally found this the most exciting part, until mine broke).

NOTES:

  • Unskinny bop – riot not diet (http://www.unskinnybop.co.uk) – disco dancing opportunities for girls, gays and misfits (mostly women at the time)
  • Ladyfest (2000s)
  • Riot grrrl
  • Spare Rib (feminist mag)
  • Fab (another feminist mag)
  • Handmaids Tale, instigating novels/literature/books that helped stand up for the movement
  • Game of ‘Miss World’ – women had to be beautiful or aspire to be
  • ‘Women were seen as property of their husbands/fathers’ – 1912
  • Audio guides: Sophie Dahl, Bill Nighy, Sandi Toksvig
  • Multimedia, projection of women’s march

HOW TO GET THERE:

I got there from a train to CANNON STREET, and I got the DISTRICT LINE to ALDGATE EAST. That didn’t take long at all, literally about 5 minutes not even that. The walk out of the station, turn RIGHT and walk down Whitechapel Road until you reach the turning on your RIGHT for LONDON MET UNI, it’s literally right next door. If you’re not coming from Cannon Street way, then my your best bet is to get to BANK, which has the DISTRICT line running through it, or any other stations on the DISTRICT LINE.

29/10/12: Update

Sorry I’ve kind of neglected this over the past two-odd days, I’ve been really busy with internships and stuff and working! But just a quick update before my lecture; I’m going to the Women’s Library in Aldgate East tomorrow, which should be interesting, and I’ll post tomorrow all the info I find out, and directions if you’re interested in getting there!

Firework Cover (Uni mock assignment)

Firework Cover (Uni mock assignment)

For a welcome assignment to our Design module at Uni, my class was asked to create a firework wrapper using inDesign only. Firstly, I had to decide whether I wanted a cylindrical shape, or ‘catherine wheel’ style firework. I went for the conventional cylinder shape ‘rocket’ style firework and I searched up the dimensions to make sure it was as realistic a print as possible (I’ll put the dimensions below incase anyone is interested in doing a similar mini-project). I decided to go for the typical black night’s sky background, shown by the moon and stars, representing Bonfire night, and used the pen tool to create abstract star shapes, playing with colour schemes to attract attention. I also searched for a firework warning sign to attempt to make it look as realistic as possible. This was only a two class thing, so it’s obviously not the most fantastic thing, but I thought I’d showcase a different aspect of graphic design I’m also interested in – Ad promos.

DIMENSIONS: 177.953mm W x 71.25mm H (with 3mm bleed around document)
